CurlManitoba is pleased to announce the appointment of two Apprentice Coaches, Blaine Malo and Greg Maywood for the 2011-12 curling season. Malo and Maywood will work under the direction of CurlManitoba’s High Performance Director Connie Laliberte, to receive practical experience and training to better themselves for current and future coaching opportunities.
Both coaches are Certified Level 2 coaches who are committed to completing the Level 3 Certification in the near future. As well, they have been coaching for 11 years with experience at the provincial level. In addition, Greg Maywood has instructed at summer curling camps as well as a Junior High Performance Camp. Blaine Malo has worked with developing curlers and junior programs.
The Apprentice Program is for an eight-month period starting September 1st, in which the coaches will receive guidance, support, and equipment and training from Connie Laliberte, a National Certified Level 4 Coach. This will mark the first time CurlManitoba has implemented an apprentice coach program in recent times. CurlManitoba has identified coach development as an important component of our Long Term Athlete Development plan.
“This program will provide opportunities for the apprentice coaches to receive hands-on training and acquire knowledge and experience in using state of the art equipment. They will also have the added benefit of working with coaches and athletes in categories in which they have little experience.” Laliberte said. “I look forward to working with Blaine and Greg in building their coaching skills.
