2022 Canada Winter Games Curling Trials

The Canada Games 4-Person Team Curling Trials and the Canada Games Mixed Doubles Curling Trials will be held in the fall of 2022 at the Heather Curling Club in Winnipeg. Dates for each competition are listed in the event specific information below.  The Canada Games Curling Trials will determine Manitoba’s representatives at the 2023 Canada Winter Games in Summerside, PEI.

The two winning 4-person teams and the winning mixed doubles team will be invited to participate in a Training Program for the season leading to the 2023 Canada Winter Games. They will be provided with opportunities for fitness testing and training, nutritional workshops, sport psychology sessions, strategy sessions, technical refinement and brushing enhancement. CurlManitoba’s High Performance Director will mentor the team coaches, as well as work closely with the teams and coaches in preparation for the upcoming games.

 

ELIGIBILITY:

4-PERSON TEAM COMPOSITION:

Under 18 years of age as of June 30th, 2022 (born on or after July 1st, 2004)

Be a resident of Manitoba (comply with CurlManitoba Residency Policy)

Be a member in good standing of any CurlManitoba member clubs

A Team is composed of 4 males OR 4 females and 1 coach

No fifths allowed.

 

MIXED DOUBLES TEAM COMPOSITION:

Under 20 years of age as of June 30th, 2022 (born on or after July 1st, 2002)

Be a resident of Manitoba (comply with CurlManitoba Residency Policy)

Be a member in good standing of any CurlManitoba member clubs

A Team is composed of 1 male and 1 female and 1 coach

No alternate players allowed.

 

COACHING:

Competition Coach Certified or higher

Curling Canada’s Canada Winter Games Development Modules – Health & Wellness and Manage a Program (available online in 2022)

Respect in Sport Certification (Sport Manitoba on-line course)

Making Ethical Decisions-Introduction Competition on-line evaluation (Coaching Canada on-line course)

Criminal Record Check on file with CurlManitoba (valid for 5 years)

Child Abuse Registry Check on file with CurlManitoba (valid for 5 years)

NO EXEMPTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED FOR THE 2023 CANADA WINTER GAMES

 

 4-PERSON TEAM ENTRIES:

Competition to be held at the Heather Curling Club October 28-30, 2022.

CurlManitoba is accepting electronic entries via our Electronic Entry page (entry system will open August 16th, 2022).

Entry fee is $250.00 per team

 

MIXED DOUBLES TEAM ENTRIES:

Competition to be held at the Heather Curling Club November 24-27, 2022.

CurlManitoba is accepting electronic entries via our Electronic Entry page (entry system will open August 16th, 2022).

Entry fee is $150.00 per team

 

GAME:

Games will be 8-ends.

For 4-Person Team Play, each team shall receive 30-minutes of thinking time for an 8-end game.

For Mixed Doubles Play, each team shall receive 24-minutes of thinking time for an 8-end game.

Time outs will be two 90-seconds time outs per team with a 4th end break.

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

If you are part of the Championship 4-Person Teams, you will NOT be eligible to compete at the Canada Games Mixed Doubles Curling Trials.

 

2023 CANADA WINTER GAMES INFORMATION:

Summerside, PEI – February 16 to March 4, 2023

The coaching requirements at the 2023 Canada Winter Games requires the coach to meet the certification requirements as listed in the coaching section.

Coaches must be certified no later than 45 days before the opening of the Games (by January 4, 2023).
