Over the last few years, the MCF and the Curl Manitoba have worked together for the betterment of the sport throughout Manitoba, in particular, the support of junior curlers. The Junior Development Program is designed to assist Manitoba curling clubs and Manitoba schools in hosting curling clinics for juniors up to the age of nineteen. The foundation assists in this regard by subsidizing a portion of the cost. The Foundation also awards up to four $1000.00 post-secondary education scholarships to any junior curler actively involved in community/school involvement. The 2002-2003 season introduced the Manitoba Curling Foundation Sport Award to two junior curlers from each Provincial Sport Region, with an annual award of $250.00.

In recent years, substantial funds have also been directed from the Foundation towards assisting the Manitoba Curling Association in the funding of competition, technical and administrative programs.

The Foundation is eager to assist anyone in Manitoba, who has identified a suitable need. If you think that you have a project that will qualify for support, please contact us.

The Foundation acknowledges the generous donation of $250.00 from Sarah Lawrie and her husband - Sean Woroniak , to be used for one of the Regional Sport Awards for 2007-2008, in memory of her cousin Colin Galbraith.

Colin Galbraith, 1970-1989

At the age of 16 Colin achieved the unique distinction of reaching the national finals of the Scottish Men's and the Scottish Junior Championships.  He played in the Scottish National Junior Finals for four consecutive years.  Colin's team, in which he played third, won the men's event at the 1988 Kalstad Junior International held in Sweden.  In 1989 Colin's team was victorious in the Bank of Scotland Junior Championship.  The team went on to represent Scotland in the Uniroyal World Junior Championship in Markham, Ontario, where they reached the semi-final.  Colin was a first-class curler with great promise, but was tragically taken from his parents, Jeanette and Colin Galbraith, and his love of curling as a result of a car accident that occured while traveling to a curling competition in Greenacres, Scotland.  Colin was a very popular young man with a vibrant personality.  He is sorely missed by his family.
