Young curlers from across Manitoba are encouraged to register now for CurlManitoba’s two-day Under-15 (U-15) Training Camp to be held February 18 and 19 in Melita.
The camp’s age grouping is based upon the age for eligibility in the new curling category which has been added for the 2018 PowerSmart Manitoba Winter Games. For that event, curlers will be a maximum of 15 years of age on June 30, 2017 (born July 1, 2003 or later)
“While the camp will be of particular interest to young curlers who are interested in pursuing the opportunity next season to compete in the Winter Games U15 event, that is not a restriction for participation in the Melita program,” says CurlManitoba’s Development Manager Elaine Owen.
“Any young person who wishes to expand their understanding of the sport of curling as well as their curling technical skill, at the same time as they have some fun, is welcome to participate in the camp,” Owen says.
The program will include discussion and demonstration of technical skills such as delivery and sweeping. It will also include strategy sessions as well as such off-ice considerations as nutrition and mental preparation for competition.
Individual entries or team registrations are invited. The registration fee is $75 per person.
Hours for the two-day camp will be 9am-4pm on Saturday, February 18 and 9am-2pm on Sunday, February 19.
