HELP SALUTE THE LEGENDS OF MANITOBA CURLING!  Join us Sunday, May 7th, 2017 as Manitoba Curling Honours this year's Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame Inductees at an annual banquet at CanadInns Polo Park.

This year's banquet, featuring TSN Commentator, Cathy Gauthier, and GoldenWest Radio Sports Director, Clayton Dreger, will honour teams from three generations of champions, a pair of builders of the sport in Manitoba, and six-time Manitoba Champion curler.

The Teams include Braden Calvert's 2015 World Junior Champion team, Hugh McFadyen'd 1986 Canadian Champion and 1987 World Silver Medallist team, and Dr. Bill McTavish's 1973 Canadian Senior Champion team.

Curler Linda Van Daele of Brandon who won Six Manitoba titles, including four consecutive wins from 2010 to 2013 (Manitoba Seniors - 2010 and Masters - 2011, 2012, 2013) and a Canadian Open Masters Women's title in 2011, joins the elite group of provincial, national, world and Olympic Champions already enshrined in the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame.

The three teams and Van Daele will be joined by Builders, Alex Mowat and June McTavish.

Mowat, a fine competitive curler in his own right, was best known for the decades of work he did as curling coach and instructor.  He coached champion junior teams skipped by Kaitlyn Lawes and Reid Carruthers, among many others, and taught hundreds (perhaps thousands) of curlers the techniques of successful delivery, sweeping and strategy in the early years of the Curl Canada program.

McTavish was the driving force and organizational energy behind the "Bide-A-Wee" Curling Club from the 1950's to the 80's.  The Club was a social-recreational league which at its peak occupied ice in many Winnipeg clubs and created curling opportunities as well as social net-working opportunities for a generation of curlers.

The annual Induction Banquet takes place at 5PM, Sunday, May 7th at CanadInns Polo Park.  Tickets can be purchased through the CurlManitoba office at 145 Pacific Avenue, Winnipeg (204-925-5723) (

The event is a fund-raiser for the Manitoba Curling Hall of Fame and Museum Inc. in support of plans to develop a virtual museum for an online display of the organization's collection of Manitoba curling artifacts, documents and historical images.
