2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto awarded to Portage la Prairie

CurlManitoba is pleased to announce that the 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto will be held January 25-29 in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba. The event will take place in the Portage Credit Union Centre.

CurlManitoba Executive Director Shane Ray commented. "CurlManitoba is pleased to be bringing the first major curling event to the beautiful new Portage Credit Union Centre.  We are confident that Portage will stage a memorable event for fans and curlers.  We are excited to work with communities on events that allow them to showcase their region and community spirit."

The 2012 Scotties will be chaired by Jo-Anne Inglis, who commented "We would like to thank CurlManitoba for awarding us the 2012 Scotties Tournament of Hearts presented by Monsanto.  The Portage Curling Club in partnership with the PRRA (Portage Regional Recreation Authority) is extremely excited about having the opportunity to host Manitoba’s top Women’s curling event in our brand new PCU Centre."

Kam Blight, Chair of the PRRA added “The Portage Regional Recreation Authority Inc. welcomes the invitation to work with the Portage Curling Club and CurlManitoba in hosting the Manitoba Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the PCU Centre.  Hosting prestigious events such as this, is a valuable opportunity to promote the sport and our community.  We look forward to providing the region’s newest recreation facility and welcoming the province’s best female curlers to Portage la Prairie in 2012.”

This 16-team women’s event will see some of Manitoba's top women curlers compete for the Provincial Championship. The winner will go on to represent Manitoba at the 2012 National Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Recent hosts include Altona (2011) Killarney (2010) Neepawa (2009), and Gimili (2008) 

About the Portage Credit Union Centre

The PCU Centre is one of the largest, most modern multi-purpose recreation facilities built in Manitoba in recent history. It is home to two NHL regulation size arenas, an aquatic centre featuring Manitoba’s largest wave pool, a 4,000 square foot fitness centre equipped with new cardio and resistance training machines, a 230 person multipurpose room, a variety of meeting rooms, skate sharpening services, food services and recreation staff offices.
