High Performance Centre

This upcoming 2008-09 season will be the Manitoba Curling Association (MCA) High Performance Centre’s fifth season and will focus on providing programs to teams and/or athletes that fit within the athlete and sport development LTD models (train to win, train to compete and train to train).

TRAIN TO WIN

Elite High Performance Program (year-round, concentrated Sept to April)
The program focuses on improving performances through the continuation of sport and position specific skills in the technical, tactical and sport science areas.  It’s targeted towards teams who have competed at the provincial, national, international and the World Curling Tour competitions with aspirations of becoming future World and/or Olympic Champions. The program will be limited only to the teams who meet the criteria.

The Elite High Performance Program offers support to member teams and coaches throughout the year in areas of sport psychology, nutrition, training and conditioning, team dynamics, strategy, tactical game plan and technical development.  Member teams and coaches will have access to the specialists (sport science experts and national coaches) on a team-to-one or one-to-one basis monitored by the MCA High Performance Director.  Member teams will have designated training ice starting late August.  Membership will commence May 1st, 2008 and expire April 30th, 2009.  The program fee is $840/team (including GST) including the coach.  A fifth player maybe included for an additional $210 (including GST).

TRAIN TO COMPETE

Provincial Excellence Program (year-round training sessions)
The program is designed to actively assist the development of the next group of top male and female curlers or teams in their efforts to become provincial, national, world and/or Olympic champions.  It provides talented curlers with an opportunity to access sport science experts to improve their skills and strive for excellence. The program will offer sessions ranging from sport psychology and mental training, nutrition, strength and conditioning, to technical, position specific and tactical training.  The program is targeted to male and female curlers or teams. The Provincial Excellence Program will offer training sessions throughout the year on a pay-per-session basis.

TRAIN TO TRAIN

Competitive Development Program (September to March)
The program will serve as a method of talent identification of upcoming and potential provincial and national athletes.  This particular program targets 12-16 year olds with a focus on constant learning and development of sport specific skills.  Training segments in the areas of delivery and brushing technique, strategy and tactics will be offered throughout the season on a pay-per-session basis.

PROGRAM APPLICATION & CRITERIA

The Provincial Excellence Program and the Competitive Development Program are both pay per session programs.  Information on upcoming sessions within these programs will be emailed as well as posted on this website.

The Elite High Performance Program is limited to men’s and women’s teams who have a minimum of 70 points on the current CTRS ranking system.  The Strauss Herb Company Canadian Team Ranking System (CTRS) ranks Canadian men and women curling teams based on performance in cash tournaments worldwide and men's and women's playdowns leading to sanctioned world championships.  It is also a key factor in determining the field for the 2009 Pre-Trials Qualifier and the 2009 Tim Hortons Canadian Curling Trials.

The Elite High Performance Program will also consider applications from Junior Women’s and Men’s teams with previous national and/or international experience as well as a past successful season.

The deadline for the Elite High Performance Program is Wednesday, April 30th, 2008.  If you have any questions, please call Connie at 204-981-7217 or email at mca.hpdirector@curlmanitoba.org
