2nd Annual Curl Manitoba Coach Symposium
September 26 & 27th, 2009

Investors Group has provided financial assistance to Curl Manitoba's High Performance Centre 2nd Annual Coach Symposium which was held on September 26 and 27th at the West Kildonan Curling Club. In conjunction with this event, a Volunteer Sport Administrators Award was presented to a dedicated volunteer who has given countless hours of time to the sport of curling. This year the award was presented to Rob Lamb from Sandy Hook, who has been an active member of the Petersfield Curling Club for many years, but has also supported the Teulon and Winnipeg Beach Curling Clubs. Rob presently curls at the Pembina Curling Club.
Rob has been actively coaching curling for the past five years. He is diligently working with a very young junior women's team that competes in Stonewall and at a Junior Superleague at the Assiniboine Curling Club. In his spare time, Rob instructs at Curl Manitoba's Learn-to-Curl clinics and summer curling camps. As well, he is a Technical Course Facilitator. In the near future, Rob would like to achieve Level4/5 Coaching Certification Program.
Curl Manitoba HIGH PERFORMANCE CENTRE PROGRAMS 2009/10 SEASON
This upcoming 2009/10 season will be the Curl Manitoba's High Performance Centres sixth season and will continue to focus on providing programs to teams and athletes that fit within the athlete and sport development Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTADM) train to win, train to compete and train to train.
ELITE HIGH PERFORMANCE PROGRAM- Train to Win (Year-round, concentrated September to April)
This is a year-round, concentrated program between September and April, targeting teams and individuals who have competed at the provincial, national, international and/or the World Curling Tour competitions with aspirations of becoming World and/or Olympic Champions.It focuses on improving performance through the continuation of individually tailored programs in the area of fitness, psychology, nutrition and technical development
The Elite High Performance Program offers year-round training in the areas of sport psychology, nutrition, training and conditioning, team dynamics, strategy, tactical game plan and technical development.Members will have access to the specialists (sport science experts and national coaches) on a team-to-one or one-to-one basis monitored by the Curl Manitoba High Performance Director.Members will have designated training ice starting late August. Membership will commence May 1st, 2009 and expire April 30th, 2010.
PROVINCIAL EXCELLENCE PROGRAM- Train to Compete (Year-round training sessions)
This program consists of year-round training sessions designed to actively assist the development of the next group of top male and female curlers or teams in their efforts to become provincial, Canada Games and regional competition champions.It provides talented curlers with an opportunity to access sport science experts to improve their skills and strive for excellence.
The Provincial Excellence Program will offer sessions ranging from sport psychology and mental training, nutrition, strength and conditioning, to technical, position specific and tactical training throughout the year to male and female curlers or teams on a pay-per-session basis.
COMPETITIVE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM- Train to Train (September to April)
This is an in-season program offered between September and April and will serve as a method of talent identification of upcoming and potential provincial and national athletes.This particular program targets 12-17 year olds with a focus on constant learning and development of sport specific skills.Training segments in the areas of delivery and brushing technique, strategy and tactics will be offered throughout the curling season on a pay-per-session basis.
