JUNIOR IDENTIFICATION CURLING CAMP – FINAL ONE FOR THE SEASON

CurlManitoba will be holding it’s final Junior Identification Curling Camp for the season on Monday, April 24th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Elmwood Curling Club, 300 Brazier Street Winnipeg.  The camp evaluates and selects young curlers to participate in CurlManitoba’s Jr. High Performance Curling Program in Dauphin and Winnipeg for the 2017-18 season.  The Identification Curling Camp is open to all female and male curlers who are born between the years of 1999 to 2005.  The cost to attend is $36.75 person (incl. GST).  The fee will cover ice time and the evaluation process.

All interested athletes (with the exception of current CurlManitoba junior program members – Jr. HP, Jr. Advanced and Jr. Development) MUST attend an Identification Curling Camp.  Following the completion of this camp, a selection committee comprised of certified and qualified coaches will select the athletes to participate in CurlManitoba’s Junior High Performance Curling Programs for the upcoming 2017-18 season. Participants from the camps will receive an email from CurlManitoba before May 1st.

The Junior High Performance Curling Program is for dedicated young curlers (between the ages of 12 to 18 years of age) wanting to train in a competitive and fun environment with the focus on developing individual skills.  The program provides a pathway for young curlers who aspire to reach the elite level and who dream to one day represent Canada.

It consists of year-round training sessions (concentrated September to March) ranging from sport psychology and mental training, strength and conditioning to technical, position specific and tactical training.  Athletes will receive instruction from qualified and certified instructors, coaches and consultants.   “State of the art” technical equipment such as video analysis equipment, wireless speed traps, SMARTBROOM for brushing analysis, a wireless microphone system and heart rate monitors will be used.

For the months of May and June, athletes will receive training and/or education in the areas of fitness and conditioning, sport psychology and nutrition.

During the curling season, training sessions will be weekly starting September and concluding in March.  Most of the sessions will be on-ice however there will be some classroom time as well.

CurlManitoba’s Junior High Performance Curling Program will provide a wonderful opportunity for the athlete to:

  • Enhance their skill development
  • Train with other curlers at or above their skill level
