CurlManitoba is a member based association facused on the common interests of our members.  CurlManitoba represents a diverse member ship including curling facilities, leagues, associations and individual participants.  These members come from across the province and include rural and urban facilities, competitive curlers, grassroots curlers and all ages.

Organizations interested in membership should review the six (6) categories of membership and the application procedure of CurlManitoba

Each category is subject to a membership fee as determined by the Board of Directors of CurlManitoba.  Member benefits will vary depending upon the type of membership. There are many tangible and intangible benefits that members receive from CurlManitoba.

Categories of Membership  

Facility (F): shall be open to any properly constituted organization whose primary purpose is to coordinate and administer curling activities/development and is the primary tenant or owner of a facility in which curling is the primary sport and has agreed to abide by the Association’s bylaws, policies, rules and regulations and is registered with the Association.

Club (C): shall be open to any properly constituted organization whose primary purpose is to coordinate and administer curling activities/development and is a secondary tenant of a facility (at which curling may or may not be the primary sport ) and has agreed to abide by the Association’s bylaws, policies, rules and regulations and is registered with the Association.

Associate (A): shall be open to any properly constituted organization whose primary purpose is to coordinate and administer curling activities, development and /or competitions in the sport of curling and has agreed to abide by the Association’s bylaws, policies, rules and regulations and is registered with the Association.  Within the Associate category there are two sub categories

a)     Facilities, Clubs, leagues, other organizations

b)    Organizations that are constituted for the sole purpose of holding competition to determine a provincial champion leading to a national championship which includes at least 50% of the Member Associations of the CCA.   Associate members of CurlManitoba during 2010-11 shall be considered to be grandfathered under 2010-11 rules subject to approval by CurlManitoba.

Participant (P):  is conferred on any individual who is in good standing of any Facility, Club or Associate which is in good standing with the Association and has agreed to abide by the Association’s bylaws, policies, rules and regulations and is registered with the Association. 

1) Includes any individual who participates in any league/program that is ongoing, long term in nature and has multiple sessions.  This includes leagues/programs that are operated by the member Facility, Club or Associate, and leagues/programs for which rental fees or charges are levied by the member Facility, Club or Associate.

  • Includes youth/juniors participating in youth, junior or adult leagues.
  • Includes individuals participating in casual/drop-in leagues.
  • Includes individuals participating in a program that does not have regularly scheduled competition, but is mainly instructional in nature.

 2)  Includes any member in good standing of any Facility or Club who does not curl regularly at the Facility or Club but has a membership for purposes of competition and/or practice.

3)  Excludes “spares” that do not pay a fee to the Facility, Club, Associate or to a league within the Facility, Club or Associate.

4)  Excludes individuals participating in a competition held by an Associate member, where the sole purpose of the competition is to determine its representative to a national competition.

5)  Excludes individuals participating in one-time “recreational” bonspiels

Honourary Life (H): shall be open to persons who have rendered valuable service to the Association as approved by two-thirds vote of the Board of Directors. All Honourary Life Members of the Corporations known as the Manitoba Curling Association Inc., and the Manitoba Ladies Curling Association Inc. prior to the date of this Constitution shall remain Honourary Life Members of the Association. No fee shall be levied for this class of membership.

Supporter (S): shall be open to any person (including but not limited to a coach, official, committee member, volunteer, parent), or organization (advisory, consultative, educational, media) who supports the purposes of the Association and has agreed to abide by the Association’s bylaws, policies, rules and regulations and is registered with the Association.

 

Member in Good Standing – Procedure

 As per Article 2.05 of the Constitution of CurlManitoba a Member of the Association shall be in good standing provided that the Member:

a)     Has no outstanding fees or other debts to the Association;

b)    Has not ceased to be a Member;

c)     Has not been suspended or expelled from membership, or had other membership restrictions or sanctions imposed upon him;

d)    Has complied with the Constitution, Bylaws, policies, rules and regulations of the Association; and

e)     Has fulfilled all terms and conditions of any disciplinary action.

Members who cease to be in good standing shall not be entitled to the benefits and privileges of membership until the Member has met the definition of good standing set out above.

To move a Member to not in good standing due to non-payment of fees, the following process shall occur:

a)     In arrears after 30 days - the Executive Director of CurlManitoba will send a letter to the Member stating that the fees are in arrears, and that benefits and privileges of membership are suspended.

b)     In arrears after 60 days- the Executive Director will send a registered letter to the Member stating that the Member has been suspended due to non-payment of fees.  The Executive Director will notify the Board of Directors of the suspension.

c)     Iin arrears after 90 days - the Executive Director will send a registered letter to the Member stating that the Member has been expelled.  The Executive Director will notify the Board of Directors of the expulsion.

If at any time prior to the 90 days the Member has paid the fees the Member will immediately be reinstated as a Member in good standing.

If a Member has been expelled and wishes to continue membership in the Association at a later date, the Member must remit the outstanding amount to the Association and re-apply for membership.
