CurlManitoba is pleased to be partnering with the Morris Curling Club to offer the “NextGen” Program, a team-based high performance-training program for junior teams and coaches in Manitoba.

The NextGen Program is a “TEAM TRAINING” program designed to help junior male and female teams and their coach prepare, train and develop for and during a curling season.  It consists of classroom and on-ice training sessions designed to actively assist the development of the team and coach towards reaching their potential.

For the months of May and June, the teams will receive nutrition and a seasonal planning session in addition to fitness sessions.

During the curling season, the teams and their coaches will be provided with classroom and on-ice training sessions for 19-weeks beginning mid-October and concluding late February.  The training sessions are once a week for 90-minutes on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm at the Morris Curling Club in Morris Manitoba.

The on-ice sessions will cover technical skills, communication systems, sweeping, rock timing, delivery analysis, etc.  It will also make use of the new equipment being set up using cameras, on-ice monitors, video analysis, lasers, speed traps, a wireless microphone system and Smartbrooms, etc.  The Morris Curling Club will be equipped with some of the world’s best technology in the sport of curling with outstanding playing conditions.

The classroom sessions will target fitness, nutrition, sport psychology, team dynamics, team communication as well as strategy.

Lorne and Chris Hamblin, Level 4 NCCP coaches are the lead instructors for the program and will be assisted by other qualified and certified instructors including the Olympic Gold Medalist coach Janet Arnott.  Lorne and Chris have coached internationally at many world and international competitions including the Vancouver Olympics.  Other sport science consultants will be included to provide specific area instruction.
