O'Grady Rules


1.  The cup shall be called "The O'Grady Challenge Trophy" and shall be a perpetual challenge cup for clubs affiliated with the Manitoba Curling Association.

2.    Each competing club to be represented by two teams and the total combined scores of the two teams representing any club are to determine the result.

3.    The club holding the trophy shall be subject to challenge from any club affiliated with the Manitoba Curling Association.

4.    All challenges must be in writing, signed by the Secretary of the challenging club and addressed to the chairman of the trustees at Winnipeg.

5.    The challenged club may defend the trophy with any two rinks of members of the club.

6.    The trustees, either with or without communicating with the challenging or challenged clubs, shall have the right to determine the date of any match.

7.    All defaults are to be reported to the Trustees immediately at time of default by the defaulting club.

7A.    The challenging club will be notified by the trustees of the date upon which their challenge will be defended by the holders, and the date so named shall be final, unless otherwise ordered by the trustees.  In default of play by the holders on the date fixed by the trustees, the holders shall forthwith deliver the trophy to the trustees.

8.    A defaulting challenging club shall not be entitled to again challenge for the trophy until after 150 days from the date of such default or until all prior challenges received by the trustees have been dealt with.

9.    Challenges will, as far as possible, be dealt with by the trustees in the rotation in which they are received, but the trustees are to have the absolute right in the event of more than one challenge being received, of determining which challenging club shall have the right to play first.

10.    The holders will not be required to defend the trophy more often than once in every seven days.

11.    All games, unless otherwise ordered by the trustees, shall be played upon the ice of the club challenging for possession of the trophy.

12.    EACH GAME SHALL CONSIST OF 10 ENDS, unless the condition of the ice, or other special reason, makes it desirable to shorten the game, in which event, by mutual agreement, a shorter game may be arranged.

13.    In all competitions for this cup, the usual rules governing competitions held under the auspices of the Manitoba Curling Association shall govern the play.

14.    In the event of any dispute arising between two clubs, the trustees shall be appealed to for decision upon the matter in dispute, and the decision of that body shall in every case be final.

15.    In the event of its being found impracticable or undesirable for any reason now unforeseen to carry on the competition for this trophy in the way outlined, after a period of five years, the trust upon which it is established shall revert to the council of the Manitoba Curling Association for re-arrangement upon such lines as they may determine, and that body shall be entirely free to arrange the playing for the trophy on whatever basis they may deem to be for the best interests of curling in the Province of Manitoba.

16.    The club holding the trophy shall, if required by the trustees, furnish a bond to the trustees in a form approved by them for the due return of the same.

17.    The trustees may at any time amend or add to the above rules.

18.    The possessions of the trophy for the first time has been decided by a competition held at the bonspiel of the Manitoba Curling Association held in Winnipeg in 1908, and all future possession is to be governed by the above rules.
