Delivery
First 3 feet--always straight back and straight forward
Last 3 Feet--12 o’clock release
Grip
Hold in 2nd knuckle area with fingers together
Hammer hold(ie holding it like a hammer) is acceptable but ensure the last 2 fingers do no affect release
Top athletes hold at the back of the handle
Leg Angle
90 degrees always for back and forward thrust (increases leg drive)
Lift
hips always lower than the shoulders
Rock
should be in line with the shoulder in the set up
Right eye in rock line
“Own the Rock” do not let the rock control you
LOD
step into the line
Slightly wide is always okay
Narrow develops the majority of trouble
Practice Slides
Five slides to do prior to every game and practice to keep you on track:
- back line, Tee line, Top 12, Half way between top house and hog, Hog line
At the end of each slide, hold position for 1000, 2000, 3000 and stand up not touching the ice surface
Sweeping
Head over rock
Back straight
One foot placement out from hip
